Sumi X is a rising pop phenomenon that isn't afraid to take chances and bet on herself.
Born Sumi Krishnan in Pittsburgh, PA, Sumi X was raised by two determined Indian immigrant parents whose hard work inspired her – her dad running steel mills and her mom working in real estate. They taught her that dreams come true with determination and drive.
She fell in love with music at the tender age of eight years old as she watched her older sister play the flute in marching band. Eventually she would go on to play the trumpet in high school, winning the esteemed “Jazz at Lincoln Center” accolade as a senior and sharing the stage with Wynton Marsalis. She also sang vocal jazz throughout college.
Sumi genuinely believes that any dream is possible and her music and music career takes a stand for that! She once built and sold a consulting company, winning numerous awards and media recognition including Inc. Magazine’s “30 under 30.”
But her true dream had always been making and sharing music that speaks to the soul. Music has a transformative and healing power like nothing else, and she wants nothing more than for her music to help heal and transform anyone listening.
“Because of my own journey, I’m passionate about using my voice and platform to help other ‘misfits’ find the courage and confidence to be their authentic selves in a confusing world,” Sumi explains. She reminds people to celebrate the journey of self-realization, while serving as an example that if you don't fit in, it's because you were born to stand out.
Sumi X is taking over the music industry one fan at a time and she's doing it her way.
